What is revisional (or redo) bariatric surgery?
Revisional bariatric surgery is when a patient who has already undergone some type of bariatric surgery has another bariatric surgery procedure. It may or may not include converting their original surgery to a different type.
When would revisional bariatric surgery be considered?
This is surgery performed on patients that have undergone previous weight loss surgery but have experienced technical problems with the surgery, resulting in troubles with reflux or swallowing.
Are there risks involved?
Every patient is unique, so you will need to talk to your surgeon about options available for your particular situation based on your previous surgery, along with risks and benefits, as it is riskier than first time weight loss surgery.
