For many patients, weight loss surgery provides long term weight loss with improvement of health and quality of life. For some patients, however, their weight loss surgery does not always provide the desired results. For these, revisional bariatric surgery may be an option.
This is surgery performed on patients that have undergone previous weight loss surgery but have experienced one or more of the following:
- Medical complications from the surgery
- Insufficient weight loss
- Weight regain after achieving weight loss goals
- Unsuccessful resolution of co-morbidities such as diabetes and high blood pressure for example
Every patient is unique, so you will need to talk to your surgeon about options available for your particular situation based on your previous surgery, along with risks and benefits, as it is riskier than first time weight loss surgery.
