Surgeon

Step 6: Meet with a surgeon

If surgery is appropriate, then the final step in your journey is to see one of our surgeons. (Sometimes, patients who have had previous abdominal surgery and especially previous bariatric surgery, or have a scenario that is more complex than usual, may see the surgeon first before any other appointments.)

They will discuss details and the pros and cons of all surgical options, using diagrams, and answering all your questions so that you feel confident to make an informed decision about which procedure is best for you.

You will then organise a date for your procedure, and be provided with a quote for all costs so there are no surprises, and booking forms for the hospital.

Your gap for surgery covers you for free medical care in our clinic for life so all AMOS surgeon and GP visits are bulk-billed post-operatively, including any further surgery if required.

If you choose to use your superannuation to fund the procedure, our surgeons can finalise your Superannuation claim forms.

After the administrative details have been completed, they will provide you with a surgical consent document so that you understand why you are having your procedure, how this is performed, the risks and benefits, alternative treatments, your expected recovery, length of stay in hospital, what will happen each day you are in hospital and on discharge.

Finally, you will be given a date to begin Optifast in preparation for your procedure, and then you can look forward to seeing you start your weight loss and health improvement journey!
